Nicole Belanger - Creator & Curator
Third person bios are super awkward for everyone involved, so please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Nicole, I am a writer and media maker, but I certainly never meant to be. The original plan(s) was to work in the non-profit sector for a few years and then go to law school. Then life did that thing where it laughs at your plans (you can read all about that here) and I wound up working as a freelance creative for nearly two years.
Over those few years, the focus of my work has been clear: collecting and telling women's stories. Because they matter and they are powerful and because we don't tell enough of them or we tell the same few over and over again (you more of my thoughts on the power of women's stories here).
Stories have a healing power unlike anything else I've ever been able to find. Throughout my life, stories have saved me more times than I can count. They have succeeded in getting through to me when nothing else could. They bring me home to myself and help me understand who I am. They teach me lessons and they educate me. Most of all, they remind me that I am never truly alone.
So today, I write and create because I have a debt to repay to the women whose stories helped me in my time(s) of need.
What you will find on this site my effort to repay that debt and do for others what countless women have so graciously done for me.
Things I have done on the internet:
Panel presentation at BinderCon: Death & Loss: Women Writing Out Loud
